Officials involved in the design and implementation of social protection policies
This webinar will focus on measures introduced by countries to provide support for workers and households during COVID-19. Short-term measures have focused on protecting lives and mitigating negative income shocks as well as preserving employment links. Governments have expanded social protection systems at unprecedented scale and introduced innovative programs to reach populations often falling through social safety nets’ cracks (e.g., informal workers, urban poor). Going forward, countries need to transition to measures with a greater focus on promoting recovery and strengthening the capacity of social protection systems to protect workers and households in future crises. This webinar will present country policy responses to the COVID-19 pandemic and transition from emergency measures, and discuss policies to strengthen social protection systems over the medium term.
