Target Audience

This webinar is designed for government officials from Ministries of Finance, or equivalent agencies, who are responsible for FMIS Reform and Management, and the linkages with the wider PFM Reform Agenda in South East Asia and the wider Asia Pacific Region. In particular, the webinar would be of interest to IT System and functional department (Budget, Treasury, Accounting, Debt and Aid Management, Intergovernmental Affairs, etc.) reform leads.

Webinar Description

This seminar will look at two issues. First, how can countries ensure that Financial Management Information System (FMIS) development and roll-out processes are successful and deliver on promised improvements in public financial management. How do countries ensure that business process reform is an integral part of FMIS development, rather than the FMIS enshrining outdated PFM processes. What are the factors behind the success stories in SE Asia and the wider Asia Pacific. What are some of the challenges that countries have faced, and how have countries handled these? Second, the seminar will look at how new technologies and design approaches have changed the way FMIS systems are being developed. Are the old, large, fully integrated systems a thing of the past? What are the opportunities of modular and agile design, web portals, application interfaces, and cloud-based solutions for system development, flexibility and implementation success? How have cybersecurity concerns impacted FMIS development? Most importantly, will these many innovations improve the management of public resources and allow for a more flexible adoption of PFM reforms?
