Target Audience

The course will include mid- to senior-level officials working on the legal issues regarding  central bank law, payment systems law, financial law, and financial integrity, at the financial authorities or in positions with similar responsibilities in the STI region.

Course Description

The course will center on the pressing legal issues regarding selected Fintech developments, with a focus on central bank law, payment systems law, financial law, and financial integrity.  The course will emphasize on the major legal issues, challenges and questions that financial authorities are faced with in the changing environment of Fintech, and will aim to present good international practices. The course will also discuss alternative legal approaches adopted (or to be adopted) by jurisdictions. In addition, it will explore the impact of Fintech on the financial authorities governance, including on central banks' mandate in terms of their use of new technologies to carry out their functions.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Different legal challenges Fintech developments presents, with a focus on central bank law, payment systems law, financial law, and financial integrity;
  • Share good international practices and the legal approaches adopted (or to be adopted) by different jurisdictions, and
  • The impact of Fintech on financial authorities governance.
